1Five units, five different jobs
- mgMilligram
- A mass: how much peptide there is. 1 mg = 1,000 mcg.
- mcgMicrogram
- A smaller unit of the same mass. 1,000 mcg = 1 mg.
- mLMilliliter
- A liquid volume. It says nothing about how much peptide is in it.
- mg/mLConcentration
- How much peptide is in each mL of liquid. It connects mass to volume.
- UnitU-100 syringe unit
- A volume mark. On a U-100 syringe, 100 units = 1 mL, so 1 unit = 0.01 mL.
2The two formulas
Concentration = vial amount ÷ water
Units = dose ÷ concentration × 100
Put the vial amount and the dose in the same unit first (both mg or both mcg). Example: a 10 mg vial with 2 mL of water is 5 mg/mL, so each unit holds 50 mcg.
3Peptide chart: how much is in each unit
Bold: mcg in each unit on a U-100 syringe. Smaller: concentration in mg/mL.
| Vial | 1 mL water | 2 mL water | 3 mL water |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 mg | 10 mcg 1 mg/mL | 5 mcg 0.5 mg/mL | 3.33 mcg 0.333 mg/mL |
| 2 mg | 20 mcg 2 mg/mL | 10 mcg 1 mg/mL | 6.67 mcg 0.667 mg/mL |
| 5 mg | 50 mcg 5 mg/mL | 25 mcg 2.5 mg/mL | 16.67 mcg 1.667 mg/mL |
| 10 mg | 100 mcg 10 mg/mL | 50 mcg 5 mg/mL | 33.33 mcg 3.333 mg/mL |
| 15 mg | 150 mcg 15 mg/mL | 75 mcg 7.5 mg/mL | 50 mcg 5 mg/mL |
| 20 mg | 200 mcg 20 mg/mL | 100 mcg 10 mg/mL | 66.67 mcg 6.667 mg/mL |
4U-100 syringe sizes
| Syringe | Holds |
|---|---|
| 30 units | 0.3 mL |
| 50 units | 0.5 mL |
| 100 units | 1 mL |
All three use the same scale: 1 unit = 0.01 mL. They differ in how much they hold, not in what a unit means.
5Common mistakes
- Mixing mg and mcg. A 1,000× error. Convert both amounts to the same unit before dividing.
- Treating units as mg. Syringe units measure volume. What a unit holds depends on the concentration.
- Re-converting a rounded number. 0.055 mL displays as 0.06 mL; converting 0.06 back gives 6 units, not 5.5. Start from the original inputs.
- Forgetting the water changed. A different water volume means a different concentration, so recalculate.
